A controlling relationship is very common in the world we live in today. These relations mainly are a result of people who have had a traumatizing childhood. During their childhood they may have had a parent or parents who were abusive, alcoholic or extremely controlling. As a result we in later years inherit these horrible traits. It is not totally your fault but by growing up thinking that something was ok in adulthood you act on it. The worst type of relationship is when both partners are going along with this theme, being controlled and taking control. The individual who does the controlling more often is trying to act out from ways in which they grew up. The fear of life being out of control haunts these people, making them extremely paranoid and in turn controlling.
Here are some of the reasons why someone would have a relationship with a controlling person. Firstly, it has become a norm form them. It is something that was seen throughout their lives and has becoming an unfortunate quality of theirs. Secondly sometimes people get into a relationship with a controller to try and change them; however this is not a conscious decision. Many people have the quality of unknowingly trying to fix people and are totally unaware that they themselves need fixing. Another reason why people date controllers is so that they can remove any insecurities of their own. When they compare themselves to their controlling partner they in turn feel good about themselves even though in reality their not. It is also common to see people drawn to controlling people due to their upbringing. Many times children grow up seeing one of their parents being controlled and have mentally imprinted this as being normal even though it is not.
If you are looking to start as far away as possible from these types of relationships then we can help. If you are one of those who had the unfortunate experience of growing up in a controlling environment then you must first realize that it is not normal. You will already know the reasons behind someone being controlling but you know that it is better not to go into this world. At times we see that parents blame their children as a way of removing the blame from them. If you are having trouble getting rid of these events then seeing a professional may help in the removal process. Only after coming to reality with it then can you move forward.
No matter if you are someone who is insecure or controlling or wanting to make yourself feel bad the only way you can stop this horrible habit is by working at it. Remember these problems are results of years of negative incidents and it won't just pass over night. It will be a long process but the reward at the end will be everlasting joy. Always keep focus in what you are doing and want to change; otherwise you won't be able to.
